  • Do they have any special programs? As far as I can tell they haven’t started any special programs.

  • Do they have any special facilities? Yes in the past year they have built three new buildings, including a 109,000 square foot small animal Veterinary Teaching Hospital and a roughly 36,000 square foot large animal / pathology facility. Starting in spring of 2013 Midwestern University is committing over $100 million towards creating the veterinary college.

  • Accreditation: The Arizona State Board of Private Postsecondary Education granted the University the authority to operate the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program on October 9, 2012. Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine received a Letter of Reasonable Assurance in June 2013 from the American Veterinary Medical Association.

  • What are some student activities? They have no student activities on their website. However, I’m sure that during the first class of 2014 organizations will quickly start up.

  • What professional development do they offer graduates? I couldn’t find any information for this yet.

  • What academic support programs do they have? Unable to find any information on this for the veterinary school in particular. However, the general university has many different students services that are available to all students including the veterinary students. They have such services as financial aid assistance, wellness center, student counseling, faculty mentor/advisor, tutoring program, and disabilities act.

  • What is the curriculum? The Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine (MWU-CVM) presents to its students a four year program leading to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. The first 8 quarters are a mix of classroom lectures, laboratories, simulation lab exercises with virtual clients and patients, and small group student-centered learning experiences. Hands-on live animal contact begins in the first quarter and continues throughout the program. Quarters 9-13 involve diverse clinical training, both on campus (about 85%) and at external sites (about 15%).

Subjective Review Components

- Applicants are chosen based upon their total GPA, science GPA, GRE score, and non-academic factors. Then based upon those standards, candidates will be chosen for the interview process.

 

- They have five different areas of skills and abilities that they want successful candidates to have. These five categories are as following: 

 

- Observation: The candidate must be able to accurately make observations at a distance and close at hand. Observation necessitates the functional use of the sense of vision and sense of

touch and is enhanced by the functional use of all of the other senses.

 

- Communication: The candidate must be able to communicate effectively, efficiently, and sensitively in both oral and written form and be able to perceive nonverbal communication.

 

- Motor: Candidates must be able to coordinate both gross and fine muscular movements, maintain equilibrium, and have functional use of the senses of touch and vision. The candidate must possess sufficient postural control, neuromuscular control, and eye-to-hand coordination to perform profession-specific skills and tasks.

 

- Conceptual, Integrative, and Quantitative Abilities: The candidate must be able to problem solve, measure, calculate, reason, analyze, record, and synthesize large amounts of information in a timely manner. The candidate must be able to comprehend three-dimensional relationships and understand spatial relationships.

 

-Behavioral and Social Attributes: The candidate must possess the emotional health required for full utilization of his/her intellectual abilities, the exercise of good judgment and the consistent, prompt completion of all responsibilities and the development of mature, sensitive, and effective relationships. The candidate must be able to tolerate physically, mentally, and emotionally taxing workloads and to function effectively under stress. The candidate must be able to adapt to changing environments, to display flexibility, and to learn to function in the face of uncertainties. Compassion, integrity, concern for others, effective interpersonal skills, willingness and ability to function as an effective team player, interest and motivation to learn, are all personal qualities required during the educational process.

  • Is there an enrollment deposit required? Yes, there is a $1000 deposit. 

 

  • Residency status options = The tuition is the same whether you are in-state or out-of-state and they don’t preferentially choose students based on residency. So there is no reason to change residency at least for tuition purposes.

  • There was no financial information particular to the veterinary school. As general, you should able through FASFA in order to be eligible for any financial aid based scholarships and loans.
